Urusei Yatsura ep. 120

SPOILER Summary/Synopsis:

Ataru’s class are tasked by Onsen-sensei with cleaning the school pool, which they are not keen to do since it is almost time for summer vacation, meaning they won’t get to use it. Ten-chan is bored and making trouble for the guys, who don’t want to get on Lum’s bad side. After one insult too many, they attack Ten-chan and back him into a corner of the pool. Lum looks down just in time to see Ten-chan flame the boys, so she turns on the water and scolds him for his actions. However, Ten-chan’s sweets were left in the pool, which cause the protozoa in the pool to become giants. The protozoa attack the guys for cleaning them, so Ataru uses Ten-chan to fry the bacteria against his will. A giant water flea survives and consumes Ataru and Shuutaro, which causes the girls to mourn for Shuutaro’s loss and Lum to scream for Ataru’s return.

Inside the water flea, Ataru and Shuutaro find themselves in a world that time forgot and are soon chased by a carnivorous dinosaur. Both try to trip up the other but make it to the river where they are sent down to another part of the land. There, they see a beautiful naked blonde woman and begin chatting her up. A naked man arrives and the two are revealed to be Adam and Eve. Saying their child is sick, they show Ataru and Shuutaro a refrigerator buried in the ground, which when opened, causes the two boys to end up on the side of an ice cliff, Shuutaro clinging to Ataru’s shorts. Ataru loses his shorts but then the limb he clung to broke and the two fall into the crevice below.

Meanwhile in the real world, Lum has been pouring bottle after bottle of sake down the water flea’s gullet to try to get it sick and puke up Ataru and Shuutaro. As she does this, a storm breaks out in the pre-historic world just as Ataru and Shuutaro reemerge from the fridge door. They find Adam and Eve caught in a twister and the two exit in the real world — the boys falling for Eve and the girls falling for Adam. With Adam and Eve gone, Shuutaro immediately grows breast and turns into a woman save for his voice. Ataru loses control and begins to chase “Shuu-chan” in his normal, lecherous manner.

Thoughts/Review:

For the most part, the episodes of late have been pretty good. Last episode was a bit strange and this one was downright tedious for most of the episode, so much so that I thought I’d gone back in time to when the series was a real struggle to watch. *_* The story itself is just a rather pointless excuse to put Shuutaro and Ataru together, show a naked babe (Eve), and do a lot of other time wasting.

Was it 100% a waste?

Fortunately, not 100% but darn close. Anytime Ataru owns Ten-chan is a plus for me and that happened twice — once when Ataru foiled Ten-chan’s attack with his broom and once when he forced Ten-chan to breath fire on the giant bacteria. So those were good moments.

The other humorous moment was Ataru deciding to pursue Shuutaro, switching from addressing him as “Mendou” and addressing him as “Shuu-chan.” Ataru is a dog, so it is in character.

Beyond that, it was tiresome watching this episode, which is unfortunate since I was already tired but need to stay awake a few more hours. This made that job tougher. ^_^;
